Leadership
Kevin Fay brings over four decades of experience as a leader in global environmental policy to his role as Executive Director of the Sustainable PFAS Action Network (SPAN), where he works with stakeholders to advocate for scientifically sound, sustainable, and risk-based management of PFAS at all levels of government.
Fay’s deep experience bringing together government, non-governmental organizations, and industry to advance sustainable environmental policies has resulted in landmark agreements to fight climate change and realize significant environmental protection. Fay provided invaluable industry leadership and perspective during negotiations and the implementation of the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer, widely regarded as one of the most successful multilateral environmental agreements ever achieved, as well as domestic implementation under the United States Clean Air Act.
Fay’s leadership was also instrumental in advocating for the 2022 U.S. ratification of the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol, which aims to phase down hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) production and consumption. This accomplishment was facilitated by Fay's previous efforts to secure the 2020 passage of the American Innovation and Manufacturing Act, which granted the Environmental Protection Agency the authority to manage and transition away from HFCs.
Fay has received notable awards for his environmental leadership from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the United Nations Environment Program, as well as significant contributions to various organizations and causes. In 2019, he received the William K. Reilly Environmental Leadership Award from the American University Center for Environmental Policy.
